About 2~10 minutes of light irradiation(the wavelength 400~500nm) inhibits the bacterial growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis, which is a typical periodontal pathogen of gum disease that most adults (about 80%) are suffering. This study has been announced both domestically and internationally. The visible light irradiation brings the light to the dark areas inside the mouth, but more than just to light up. The inhibitory effect on gum disease was presented at the 51st annual meeting of Japanese Society of Periodontology in October, 2008.
The Beldente LED toothbrush was developed based on the above mentioned facts. What it aims at is the oral care without side effect on human body or cells which is different from using drugs to kill bacteria. In the long term, it lifestyle-related will help people to reduce various lifestyle-related diseases and live a healthy long life with low medical care cost by inhibiting periodontal pathogens.
